Woman raises money to help Milwaukee women transition
One Milwaukee woman is doing her part to help Black transgender women feel comfortable in their own skin.
Meet Elle Halo. She spent the last two years launching TRANCE Consulting, a mission that is an all-encompassing resource for transitioning and nonconforming people. It provides an outlet for mentorship and activism and is the subject of a WTMJ-TV Milwaukee news segment.
While the program is still relatively new, it’s serving a tremendous purpose as a source specifically for trans women to help guide them through their transition.
As part of the program, Halo created the Paris Ticca Mahone Memorial Transition Fund, which is designed to help pay for portions of the cost of gender transition. Paris Ticca Mahone was a dedicated LGBTQ activist in the area and one of the founding members of SHEBA (Sisters Helping Each Other Battle Adversity), a program established to offer support to Black trans women.
The cost of transitioning can be significant. That’s why Halo has already raised $25,000 for her fund through grants like Pride United Equity Fund, Planned Parenthood, and multiple sponsorships and other donations. That money will help fund necessary gender-affirming services like laser hair removal to help transitioning women realize their true identity.
So far, eight women have been chosen to benefit from the fund. Ultimately, Halo hopes to help fund more expensive gender-affirming procedures like breast augmentation and silicon removal.
