In the article, a Harvard Medical School representative highlights how laser hair removal and electrolysis are desired by almost 90% of transgender and gender-diverse individuals. Additionally, it takes a deep dive into the impact receiving these treatments—or not—has on the mental health of individuals in these communities.
Unfortunately, insurance plans rarely cover laser hair removal treatments, which has made it difficult for many in the transgender and gender-diverse communities to receive treatments. This appears to be negatively impacting mental health in the transgender and gender-diverse communities because the primary finding in the study was that gender-affirming hair removal is indeed associated with improved mental health.
