WHAT IS LASER HAIR REMOVAL?

HOW DOES LASER HAIR REMOVAL WORK?

At Miami Dermatology and Laser Institute, Melissa Troha PA-C – a board-certified physician assistant – customizes each patient’s laser hair removal treatment in order to achieve their unique goals and meet the needs and quality of their skin. In general, laser hair removal involves using concentrated beams of light energy delivered over targeted hair follicles to heat and destroy them. Because hair follicles may only be partially damaged, patients may require multiple treatments to destroy the follicles and fully eliminate unwanted hair. Technology has made it possible to treat larger areas of the body, such as legs, arms, and backs, using bigger laser devices, so we can successfully address all of your hair concerns.

Laser hair removal is not painful; however, some of our patients may find the treatment mildly uncomfortable, like a rubber band lightly snapping against the skin. If necessary, a topical numbing cream may be applied to the targeted area to relieve any discomfort. If multiple treatments are needed, they are scheduled several weeks apart.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM LASER HAIR REMOVAL?

With laser hair removal, there is no recovery or downtime; however, the skin may be pink and somewhat tender immediately following treatment. Ice packs help relieve any tenderness, which typically resolves within a day or two. Once the treatments are completed and the unwanted hair is removed, the results are long-lasting. This means that, while the treatment is highly individualized, all of our patients can expect to enjoy and take pride in their bodies, once more.
