What is laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal uses concentrated beams of light to destroy hair follicles. The lasers are specially designed to target areas of high pigmentation without harming other tissues. This procedure is ideal for patients who want to achieve long-term hair removal.
Dr. Ness uses the Apogee Elite™ system from Cynosure®. This method of laser hair removal is safe for all skin types and provides effective hair reduction with minimal discomfort.
Can I receive laser hair removal on any area of my body?
Laser hair removal treatments like Apogee Elite can reduce hair in the following areas.
- Upper lip
- Bikini line
Lasers can damage your vision, so it’s not safe to receive laser hair removal around the eye area. But the procedure can safely and effectively remove hair in most other regions of your body.
Because the lasers target areas of high pigmentation, laser hair removal may work best for patients with dark hair follicles and lighter skin. However, Apogee Elite is an effective method of hair removal for most skin and hair types.
Before undergoing laser hair removal at Delta Aesthetics, patients meet with Dr. Ness for an in-depth consultation. Dr. Ness examines your skin and reviews your medical history to determine whether laser hair removal is right for you.
What happens during a laser hair removal procedure?
Laser hair removal is a simple outpatient procedure. On the day of your treatment, a Delta Aesthetics staff member shows you to the treatment room. The staff may provide you with goggles to protect your eyes. You may need to remove some of your clothing.
Dr. Ness and his staff apply a numbing cream to your skin to make laser hair removal more comfortable. Next, Dr. Ness adjusts the laser to the correct settings and begins the procedure.
Treatment time can vary. Laser hair removal on a small area of the body may only take a few minutes, but laser hair removal on your legs or arms may take up to an hour.
What results can I expect?
Over 90% of laser hair removal patients achieve permanent hair reduction. After treatment, most patients have significantly less hair in the targeted area. Any hair that remains is usually much lighter and finer.
You may need several procedures to achieve your goals. Most patients receive 5-8 treatments and treatments are generally spaced several weeks apart. During your consultation, Dr. Ness will help you develop a treatment schedule to meet your hair reduction goals.
